The <a href=\"http:\/\/ww11.doh.state.fl.us\/comm\/_partners\/covid19_report_archive\/covid19-data\/covid19_data_20211217.pdf\">latest week<\/a> had a 50% increase (from 1002 cases to 1503 cases), up from a low of 673 cases in the second week of November.<br \/>\nOrange County FL&#8217;s new case positivity rate is 4.5% (below the Florida State average of 5.4% in the same time period), but is almost certainly going to go above 5% next week. \u00a0 \u00a0 This increase can be attributed partially to the new Omicron variant, and partially to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OCPS-2021-12-17-20-51-13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-5655\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OCPS-2021-12-17-20-51-13-1024x770.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OCPS-2021-12-17-20-51-13-1024x770.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OCPS-2021-12-17-20-51-13-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OCPS-2021-12-17-20-51-13-768x577.png 768w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OCPS-2021-12-17-20-51-13-399x300.png 399w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/OCPS-2021-12-17-20-51-13.png 1220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the last six weeks the OCPS dashboard has reported only 615 new cases. Schools do not appear to be a primary driver of infections, and they will be closed for the next two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>This chart, from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/health\/fl-ne-florida-covid-19-updated-statistics-20211129-nw7m2mspx5gjlnbeyutuu3yan4-story.html\">story in the Orlando Sentinel <\/a>shows the sharp upward increase occurring across Florida.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida_Case_numbers.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida_Case_numbers.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida_Case_numbers.png 800w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida_Case_numbers-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida_Case_numbers-768x440.png 768w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida_Case_numbers-500x286.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIt appears that Orange County is about one week &#8220;behind&#8221; the average, so I \u00a0 expect our curve to also take a sharp upward spike in the next weekly report from the FL-DOH (Scheduled for December 24th, but likely be delayed until after Christmas).<\/p>\n<p>In this chart from the FL-DOH report, you can see how Florida overall had a very sharp spike in the last week, with a more than doubling of cases and case positivity percent:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida-last-10-weeks.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5654\" src=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida-last-10-weeks.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"903\" height=\"506\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida-last-10-weeks.png 903w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida-last-10-weeks-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida-last-10-weeks-768x430.png 768w, https:\/\/www.summet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Florida-last-10-weeks-500x280.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 903px) 100vw, 903px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the FL-DOH report, Orange County has 73% of it&#8217;s 5+ population vaccinated [Compared to a statewide average of 70%]. Vaccination offers strong protection from severe illness and death, but only partial protection from being infected by the Omicron variant.
