It just matches the impedance to the 50 ohms expected by your transmitter so the transmitter doesn&#8217;t know how bad it is and doesn&#8217;t overheat. (That reflected power is still turned into heat at the antenna &amp; tuner, just not in your expensive transmitter&#8230;) So try and tune your Antenna first, and only use a transmatch as necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Button settings on an MFJ-941D front:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nReading Power (forward or reflected watts):<br \/>\n1. Power\/SWR button pushed in to Power.<br \/>\n2. Select 1-30 or 1-300 watts<br \/>\n3. Select FWD or REF power<\/p>\n<p>Transmit full carrier (CW) and read the power.<\/p>\n<p>Tuning the built in SWR mode:<br \/>\n1. Power\/SWR button OUT to the SWR setting.<br \/>\n2. Setting for 30\/300 doesn&#8217;t matter, it&#8217;s a ratio&#8230;.<br \/>\n3. Push FWD\/REF in to tune the SWR meter.<br \/>\n4. Key up the transmitter (low power setting is fine) and use the SWR Sensitivity knob the move the meter to the max (infinity, far right) side of the scale.<\/p>\n<p>Reading SWR (After tuning the meter using steps above).<br \/>\n1. Power\/ SWER button OUT to SWR.<br \/>\n2. ignore 30\/300 button, it doesn&#8217;t matter.<br \/>\n3. FWD\/REF button OUT.<br \/>\n3.
