Picture 7 - Laundry

Bruce doing the dark load. According to the brochure, a laundromat was within "easy walking distance" which was true enough, only a few blocks away. However, the cost of US$ 8 per load made us decide to buy a box of "Tide with CK". I'm still not sure what CK is, but according to Rosemary (the great lady that runs the Athens Center) you MUST get tide with "CK" for hand (or foot) washing laundry. For interested parties, the following procedure is recommended:

  1. Poor some magical "Tide with CK" in the tub. (1 dump for whites, 2 for darks)
  2. Fill the tub with water as hot as your feet can stand.
  3. Soak clothes.
  4. (This step is important) STOMP 100 times!
  5. Agitate clothes (I prefer total removal and re-layout, Bruce likes the single foot turn over approach.)
  6. Repeat steps 4 - 6 SIX MORE TIMES.
  7. Drain Water.
  8. Rinse Clothes, Squeeze water out.
  9. Repeat step 8 twice.
  10. Hang out to dry.

Although the work done by a washing machine was time consuming, drying clothes was VERY easy in the Mediterranean climate.

Helpful Hint: Roll your socks inside-out a few times before storage to soften them.
