Picture 9 - Friday Market

Every Friday, Archimidous street would be closed and a giant farmers market (the likes
of which appeared in neighborhoods all over Athens) would be held. This is where we
would purchase most of our vegetables and fruits along with other miscellaneous food.
We may have learned how to say different numbers in Yanna's Greek Class, but we
learned how to understand them when spoken quickly in the market.
We also shopped at a "supermarket" a block from our apartment which had a grand total
of three checkout lanes. Stores in Greece are generally smaller and much more
specialized than in America, and many more of them are family owned.
