Picture 10 - Big hair and expensive water

Paula, myself and Lisa. As you can see, I let my hair grow just a bit while in Greece.
In the foreground you can see the top of a water bottle. Fresh water is a commodity in Greece, and most tavernas will attempt to sell you bottled water instead of giving you tap water.

Other places where you can always buy water are the peripteros (Kiosks) scattered throughout every city, where you can buy cigarettes, magazines, bus and trolley tickets, drinks and snacks as well as phone cards (which are required for all pay-phones). The average cost is around 100 dr. (~.45 cents) for a liter.

Almost all hotels have potable water, with the exception of those on some of the smaller island (such as Ios) where the water is usable for bathing but you must purchase bottled water for all cooking and drinking.
